+President Obama said that he could not think of another example of a foreign leader interfering in American internal affairs such as Bibi. (Actually, I can. As the former executive director of Freedom House in New York,I recall that its origins began with Winston Churchill wanting to mobilize American pubic opinion to enter WWII.British intelligence played a major role in information campaigns in the United States much like AIPAC is doing know in its multi-million dollar campaign against the Iran nuclear deal.)
+President Obama emphasized how the credibility of the United States is at stake. If the United States is to set the agenda for global issues, how can we been seen as reliable if we abrogate agreements we ourselves negotiated.
+This has been a recurring theme among the GOP. The United States after WWII played a leasing role in crafting international human rights law. However, under the last administration we opted out of the ICC even though we were given "immunity" for our soldiers. We also saw the humiliating scene of Bob Dole brought back to the Senate to urge ratification of the Covenant on Disabilities, which was based on our own landmark legislation, which saw its 40-year anniversary this past week. We also saw under W our willful violation of the Convention against Torture which was signed by Ronald Reagan and ratified by Bill Clinton.
+We have seen for instance our efforts to mediate a two state solution for Israel and Palestine only to see it rebuffed again and again.
+Whatever you think about the TPP, John Kerry believes he will conclude it the end of this year. The same foes for the Global Climate Change agreement by December in Paris. What happens to these initiatives if the Iran nuclear deal gets scuttled.
+President Obama's interview today with Zaeed Zakaria came when Steny Hoyer was in Israel with a delegation meeting with Bibi. The press release did not mention Iran in it. And Isaac Herzog of the Zionist Union mentioned that he disagreed with Bibi's interference in American politics and thought Israel should reach out to the United States and encourage the alliance of Israel and the Sunni countries to block Iranian expansionism.
+Meanwhile "J" street sent out a letter that hey are confident that the at least the Iran deal will not be "disapproved" by a veto-majority.
+They noted the disappointment with Chuck Schumer's position but pointed to the leading Democratic Senators on the Foreign Relations committee supporting the deal. I am sure they did not mean Bob Mendendez.
+I have received e-mails to day from friends blasting the deal because of Iran's role in terrorism and its human rights abuses at home. But the e-mails neglect to mention the issue of nuclear arms, which is the whole point of the agreement.
+Greta Van Sustern had an intriguing op-ed at the Huffington Post about "how do we know Iran can have a nuclear bomb in 2-3 months." She says that Obama is relying on the same agencies who got Iraq wrong. She argues that they are further away and that Iran used tho to bluff us into making a deal. That's way they will gain resources for more terrorism and destabilization of the region. Pretty clever. Sort of a reverse psychology.
