+ The Donald and Scott Walker have both said they were against birthright citizenship in dealing with the immigration issue. The Donald, you will remember, was a Birther.
+The World Nut Daily is going full birther on Marco Rubio,Ted Cruz and Rick Santorum. Apparently in Rubio's case, his parents were not naturalized citizens when Rubio was born,Cruz was born in Canada and Rick Santorum is Italian. I can't figure out the gripe against Santorum.
+Josh Marshall said this was a symptom of the strict constitutionalists. I see it as harping back to some of the themes I explored earlier in this blog about the "sovereign citizens' movement. If you are a person of color, you are not an American citizen. Only someone like myself is--white male and goes back to the founding of the Republic. Everyone else is a 14th amendment citizen.
+The GOP has turned its back on the 14th amendment as has Tony Scalia. The equal protection clause is seen as abused when it applies to same sex marriage, women and immigrants.
+This weekend Joan Carter wrote in the Dailykos a perceptive article about how the GOP,particularly the extreme right, are now using the 14th Amendment as their new wedge issue.
+Carter traces this antagonism to the 14th amendment to the Southern strategy of Nixon and then embrace of the Dixiecrats on the issue of integration. But now it extends to issues of immigration.
+What we thought was a rearguard action to preserve confederate monuments and flag after the killings at Mother Emmanuel are now being developed into a modern reactionary ideology. Sadly it reverberates. And 2016 will produce the reaction.
