++The creator of Kurt Wallender has died. A great novelist with his other African novels. The last two weeks I have spent watching the "television " versions of Kurt Wallender--both the Swedish version and Kenneth Branaugh's. I prefer the Swedish version but cringed at the last sequences as Kurt suffers from Alzheimer's and eventually has to retire. But remember, while suffering from this illness, Kurt's instincts remained accurate allowing him to solve each case and in the last episode saving the investigative team from having to move to Malmo.
++Perhaps the most fun event in the public life of Henning Mankell was the event during the Gaza Flotilla when Israel's IDF arrested him and then realized this was the man at Number 1 on the Israeli Best Seller list.
++He spent his life commuting to Mozambique, where he lived six months of the years directing a theater group.
++This blog's dreary business is to mourn writers and artists who gave my life pleasure. Farewell Henning.
