The Scalia Is Dead Debate --GOP in South Carolina

+The pundits said this debate was a meltdown by Trump. On Drudge Trump wins the debate overwhelmingly with Cruz a distant second, and Rubio an even more distant third.

+Clearly something had annoyed Trump from the beginning. I think it was hearing about Cruz' robocalls telling South Carolina voters Trump was not going to run. It was the same stunt he pulled in Iowa. Strangely enough,Trump called Cruz and Rubio liars for precisely that--they lied.

+Jeb came to the debate to tackle the Donald and to stay in the race. He had a coherent and spirited defense of his own record and defended his family's honor.

+John Kasich stayed out the food fight and was the first to really go religious with his closing statement.

+The Donald went after President Bush who is coming to help Jeb on Monday. The Donald said that W let the Twin Towers be attacked and that we shouldn't have gone into Iraq because the WMDS weren't there. Rubio defended W by saying it was better to have W after 9-11 then Al Gore. Although with Al Gore the odds are that 9-11 would not happen. Jeb of course defended his brother. John Kasich said ,'yeah it was a mistake but well-intenioned."

+The problem Trump has is that South Carolina has alot of military, who love them W.

+The nasty campaign is under foot in the state with attacks on Kasich for extending "Obamcare" and Trump's defense of Planned Parenthood. I don't know where Cruz got the fact that Trump approved partial birth abortions.I'm sure that is being spread also.

+They all agreed that to preserve the constitution, the Senate should not do its constitutional obligation by confirming a Supreme Court nominee named by President Obama.  The Donald said President Obama would probable exercise his right as President to nominate someone.

+Cruz said the 2nd Amendment is at risk with Scalia's death and that the roll-back of abortion may be stalled unless the Republicans win in November.

+The debate was mayhem and the chaos was egged on by the audience who, Trump was right, were donors and volunteers for the campaigns. At one point, John Dickinson said,"I'll have to turn this car around."

+Everyone wonders why Ben Carson is still there.

+Rubio may have had a strong showing tonight but he is way off on some of his assumptions. All the candidates claim the economy is crashing and that President Obama is responsible for America losing credibility abroad.  Rubio took up Karl Rove's eight year theme by likening Obama to Jimmy Carter. So far no one else except Dick Cheney has argued this point. Rubio said the illegal immigration issue is worsening. With 2 million deportations and more Mexicans leaving than coming, it is not. He also lied about his position in the immigration reform Act. He also went all culture war by asserting again that marriage is for a men and a wife and that life is forever sacred.

+Jeb touted his record as governor of Florida which was halfway decent except the Donald was right in that Jeb racked up the debt.

+We had three candidates attack Trump all the time. Will that help him or hurt him. Personally I thought this debate was the Donald's worst but it's tough to pick anyone else as the winner.

+The over-all message of the GOP is that America is collapsing and our morals are in decline and everyone hates us--vote for me. Not quite Reaganesque like Marco Rubio keeps saying.
