He Brought Everything To the Table

++ED Kilgore liked how he put together the middle class initiatives with panache. He also notes that President Obama used the Pentagon as authority on the effects of climate change and the need to deal with it now. Kilgore was surprised that President Obama suggested the need for a new Authorization to Use Force against ISIS. I am glad of this.

++The Democratic reactions were summed up with the line,"He brought everything to the table." Democratic Underground comments suggested this was President obama's best State of the Union speech ever. The constant dissenting note was one about the trade pacts.

++Consensus best line,"I know because I won both of them", referring to President Obama's response to the Republican app;wise he was not running again.

++First time, "lesbian","Bisexual" and "transgender" used in a State of the Union Speech.

++The Daily Kos kept its eyes on the Republican responses. It noticed no applause on Obama talking about bringing the deficit down. The only standing ovations on the GOP side were when the President mentioned veterans. No response to the President on his statement about Americans fighting Ebola, after all that was their mid-term issue. It noticed the lull with Iran. Ed Kilgore thinks Obama was holding back news about a breakthrough. That's why he said war was a last resort.

++Joni Ernst regaled us with her upbringing on an Iowa farm and gave comedians some openings. She painted a story of people struggling, losing their health insurance and having to struggle with Obamcare. She also mentioned the Keystone XL pipeline as a total infrastructure project. She called it a jobs bill. Observers said that Joni Ernst looked like a Stepford Wife but at least didn't have the crazy eyes of Michelle Bachmann. The GOP message is of gloom and doom . It seems Reagan's sunny disposition has long been forgotten.

++There were also four other alternative state of the unions. Even Rand Paul of his own YOUTUBE channel.

++What tomorrow will miss is President Obama's emphasis on women, equal pay, child care and choice. Even the "liberals" in the media will neglect it.
But expect Hillary Clinton to seize on this when she announces.

++ I was surprised by his vow to veto attempts to water down the regulations governing banks and Wall Street. He already let the regulations on derivatives slide.

++I don't expect much from Congress on any of these things. I agree with Andrew Sullivan that President Obama laid out a Democratic platform for the future. He also warned that he would take measures to prevent the GOP from reversing the progress made.

Domestic HiJinx

++Tan Man Boehner said he "was all in" for being elected Speaker of the House again. Previously, it was thought he would bow out next year.

++David Brat is a Neo-Calvinist,Catholic, libertarian. Andrew Sullivan thinks his right-wing populism might be the ticket for the GOP. Andrew thought the next President after Obama would be a left-wing populist. Weirdly, he finds Brat more convincing than Elizabeth Warren.

++David Frum tweeted "The Challenge: How to keep the GOP small enough to be controlled by rightwing talk shows and large enough to still beat the Greens."

++Rachel Maddow did a good job showing that Cantor was not defeated because of immigration reform. In fact,PPP did a poll the day of the primary that showed the most liberal reform had the highest support.

++Even Tan Man doesn't believe Eric was defeated by immigration reform. And to his credit yesterday, Cantor came out for some sort of protection for the children of immigrants.

++I noted the curious item in Politico's Senate predictions that Republicans will win the Iowa seat. Strange because Joni Ernst, the castrating pig farmer (in her youth),is actually a Fruit Loop. She apologized for her equally Fruit Loop husband calling Janet Napolitano, formerly the head of Homeland Security,a "Traitorous Skank". This isn't the first time she apologized for her husband's remarks. But,what threw me was Ernst is campaigning on "repealing Agenda 21", a conspiracy favorite about the UN taking Americans' private property. I didn't know Iowa has gotten that strange.

++Jason Carter it taking the Medicaid extension issue straight at Nathan Deal. Carter is pointing to the health emergency in rural Georgia as hospitals have to close for the lack of funding, which would be solved by Medicaid expansion.

++The Southern Baptists are going to vote on whether President Obama should be impeached at their annual convention. The platform also calls on Baptists joining Operation American Spring, which had a dismal turnout but will return in the fall.

++Brainwrap points out that the best news about Obamacare isn't being covered. 2/3rds of Americans want to keep it.

++Tan Man Boehner has a unique reason Cantor lost. Besides not saying Benghazi as many times as Lindsey Graham, he lost because of President Obama.

++The Speaker went on to say that immigration reform hasn't passed because of how President Obama handled the swap for Sgt.Burgdahl.

++The Magellan Strategies Poll shows Alison Grimes beating Mitch McConnell 49 to 46.

++Survey USA poll has Jeff Merkley beating Dr.Wehby 50 to 32 in the Oregon Senate race.
