Mitt Romney has previously said that Obama doesn't understand the nature of America and the values that make it. He's jettisoned this for an emphasis on job creation. Washington Monthly says that's not such a good idea. Mitt Romney didn't run for re-election in Masschusetts as the Boston Globe notes because he was so unpopular.
Why? From 2002-2006, his term in office, Massachusetts had the third worst record of job creation of the 50 states. It would have been second except for Louisiana, which had been hit by Hurricane Katrina. While the rest of the country experienced a loss of 7% of its manufacturing jobs, Massachusetts' manufacturering fell 14%.
During this period, Massachusetts was the only state that failed to register any gain in employed residents. Over 3.5% of the state left to gain employment elsewhere.
The median household income in Massachusetts fell 3% during this period.
So Mitt will have to conjure up another reason he can create jobs. I had assumed, and I imagine most people, that Romney had at least a respectable record in this regard as Governor, since he left before the economic collapse. Apparently, people in Massachusetts remember how bad it was.
So next we'll have to see his arguments for his job in the private sector. As I wrote I can not imagine it's something to write home about.
