Welcome To America--How Bad Can They Make It?

++When it became obvious that the Paris attackers were not Syrian or residents of a Middle Eastern country, but Europeans, Senators Feinstein and Flake decided that the United States had to tighten its security on those 38 "visa-free" countries, including most of Western Europe. To date these countries do not need a visa to visit here.

++Under the new requirement they would. Visa fees for 90 days would start at $160. The pre-travel program would require fingerprinting and the United States government would have to use Interpol to screen the visitors.

++Over 20 million foreigners visit the United States every year. Should they want to?

++The Obama Administration opposes this legislation and says it is tightening up security and taking in the Senators' concerns without adopting onerous procedures.

++The travel industry says this measure will destroy what has been built up with the visa-free policy and take the country where it shouldn't want to be.

++On another note, the House wants to prohibit the Obama Administration from accepting the projected 20,000 Syrian refugees. As I pointed out a few days ago, that is one-tenth of the resident visas we give to Saudi Arabians every year.

++The House believes they have their base behind them and can shut down the government unless Obama acquiesces. I guess the issue is to get Obama to acquiesce on something. He won't on the ACA, Planned Parenthood, but who knows about Syrian refugees?
