The problem wasn't that the FBI investigation was going slowly or that Comey needed the resources to kick it in gear.
The Wall Street Journal reports today that Comey was being overwhelmed by the material. WSJ uses an analogy about Senator Burr briefed once a week now being briefed several times a day about new finds.
The WSJ says these new findings triggered the request to Treasury about Trump financial relations with Russia.
