Reince Preibus said Trump was on the mark in his press conference. Obviously he wasn't but Reince is speaking to Trump's base.
Democrats have gained enthusiasm as millions have taken to the streets. Yesterday was America without immigrants Day, which saw alot of DC restauranteurs closed. Today is a general strike --sort of--.
But Democrats should be leery of triumphalism about the mid-terms. Upshot reporters in the Times that the economy is finally on an upswing--thanks Obama. And with a slight bounce from Trump's deregulations there is no reason to believe the economy will get worse until the by-elections.
Then whether it is the Russian case or voter suppression, you have Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III who will really earn his pay. Expect an acceleration in voter suppression and failure to enforce previous court decisions.
On top of that gerrymandering gives House Republicans a tremendous advantage.
On top of that the Koch Brothers have pledged $400 million to the by elections.
And Trump will be taking the campaign trail with his populist rhetoric.
His approval ratings will be in the gutter by then but what we have learned is that the supermajority of Americans support everything from abortion to gun control but there wishes are ignored.
The next question for me is will seniors come out like they have in by-elections and will they realize their social security and Medicare is jeopardized.
The enthusiasm of the anti-Trump movement is still high and has mobilized people that haven't been in politics for years. 1400 women will be running for election and marches will run through the spring and summer.
Rachel Maddow rightly reports this week has been a disaster for Trump in terms of his immigration ban,the dysfunctionality of his administration and the rejection of the Labor Secretary. But my view is he has to suffer more setbacks that would start to lead his base to become disillusioned with him and the party which he leads and controls.
