++Against my better judgment, Nancy Pelosi will announce Democrats will sent 5 to participate in the #Benghazi Kangaroo Court. Meanwhile, CNN has said they will only cover it when and if something newsworthy appears.
++The Democrats are Elijah Cummings,Adam Smith,Adam Schiff, Tammy Duckworth and Linda Chavez.
++Not to be outdone, Darryl Issa has subpoenaed the entire Justice Department on the IRS investigation.
++Meanwhile Mitt Romney's spokesperson proclaimed that last night's primary victories of establishment Republicans shows Romney is an elder statesman in the Party. Who knows maybe the Benghazi investigation can make him President.

House to Create Select Committee on Benghazi
++If you have followed the noise of the GOP since the first election of Barack Obama, you would have to conclude they either aimed to impeach him or assassinate him.
++With today's straight partisan vote on establishing another investigation into Benghazi,Dave Weigel in Slate as picked up by the Washington Monthly, points out that the choice of Trey Gowdy,a prosecutor, is deliberate by Boehner,so he becomes the face of impeachment. Darryl Issa sort of blew it and could not bring home the bacon. Issa's last ditch effort to save his position was to subpoena John Kerry.
++The idea is to impeach President Obama for his dereliction of duty as commander-in chief.
++Democrats got some salvos in today by questioning why the GOP never wanted an investigation of the deaths in Iraq caused by the lies of the last administration or the practice of torture.
++One worrisome detail about this Select Committee, the GOP has the right to call witnesses but the Democrats have no such ability.

Waiting On The Ukraine
++Yesterday we saw a spasm of anti-Obama rhetoric by such successful geopoliticians as Dick Cheney, Don Rumsfeld, Ms. Lindsey Graham,John McCain, and Rudy Guiliani. Graham said that Putin's decision started with Benghazi after he saw that Americans could be killed with our consequences. I guess sort of like Iraq. John McCain said that a 1983 paper wrote by President Obama while he was at Columbia shows he doesn't understand the Soviet Union,which no longer exists. Rudy Guiliani was positively giddy about Vladimir Putin's leadership. All of this was best handled by Andrew Sullivan in his post "Putin Envy."
++By early morning,John Kerry had met with the government in Kiev and promised $1.5 billion,the EU promised $15 billion,NATO suspended all cooperation with the Russian military and Secretary Hagel travelled to Europe and said that NATO would bolster the Baltic states. Putin gave a press conference where Clint Eastwood's chair showed up and Putin was rambling about American plots against him. Putin's statements were dissected as a pack of lies by the Washington Post and President Obama said that no one believes what Putin says.
++Later John Kerry met with the Russian prime minister and the Ukraine met with Russians. Putin still reserves the right to use force but his troops have backed away from the border. Russians still occupy Crimea.
++With these pressing matters, Darryl Issa was supposed to have a blockbuster hearing with Ms. Lerner agreeing to testify after pleading the Fifth. But, alas, she showed up to plead the Fifth and Issa refused to allow Elijah Cummings, the lead Democrat , from speaking and then huffed and adjourned the hearing. He has declared that his investigation has hit the end of the road.
++The House also is deliberating the STOP Act, which would give Congress the right to sue President Obama--for doing his job. The bill declares that the President can not interpret how laws are to be implemented. In my time,this had been ok'd by several Supreme Court decisions.

++Same-sex couples can now get married in Illinois. Western Republicans, including former Senator Nancy Kassenbaum, signed a petition to the federal court to allow same-sex marriage.
++Bibi Netanyahu tied up traffic yesterday in D.C. and spoke to AIPAC. To a very subdued crowd, he made a pitch for the Peace Plan being negotiated by John Kerry. He argued the time has come. Then throwing red meat to the crowd, he went after Iran and called for additional sanctions against the regime, the worst in the world. Senator Menendez spoke and pledged to renew his attempt for additional sanctions. John McCain spoke and denounced President Obama.

++As the ACA ramps up and people start enrolling,the GOP venom has just gotten more potent. As the Iran Deal continues on,the GOP screams "appeasement" but will not offer any alternative. With 7 days left in Congress this year, Tan Man Boehner actually says that the GOP will offer an alternative to Obamacare. Yeah, right.
++Rachel Maddow has an instructive segment last night where she compared Harry Truman's "Do Nothing" Congress with today's Congress. Then they passed 395 laws--Now this Congress is at 55.
++Jay Carney said that there had been 375,000 visitors to the Healthcare website by noon yesterday. By the Lawrence O'Donnell show it was 750,000. But by midnight it was up to 1 million.
++Dana Milbank basically said the GOP should throw in the towel since the website is working and Obamacare is here to stay.
++Bob Cesca in the Daily Blather called out Ron Fournier, the AP Washington Bureau Chief for saying that Obamacare was Obama's Iraq and Katrina both.
++The New York Times this morning printed an article that said the cost of ACA was well below expectations. In short, the ACA will save $220 billion.

As evidence of this was a TPM piece yesterday about the rise of Obamacare McCarthyism, which attacks Republicans who might like elements of the healthcare law or who want to improve it.

Capehart says the GOP is dead to Latinos also. While the Senate passed immigration reform,House Republicans have pronounced immigration reform dead. He notes that the GOP point to Chris Christie winning re-election with 51% of the Hispanic vote. But he also notes that at the time Christie backed the Dream Act. Now that he is running for President he has changed his position.

++The richest man in congress, Darryl Issa hit North Carolina today in his Obamacare hearings and refused to hear from citizens who actually benefited from Obamacare because they had been denied coverage because of pre-existing conditions.
++Mark Halperin tried to back away from his "death panels" statement this morning via Twitter. Howard Dean caught him at it by pointing to the part of Obamcare that had a review board on appropriate treatments. Halperin stammered on.
++Thank you ,Ted Cruz ads will be on football games this Thanksgiving.
++President Obama urged everyone this afternoon to get back on healthcare.gov because it was working better.

D.C. Radiated,Wrecking Crew Leaves Town
++After Harry Reid pulled the nuclear option,the Amazon Post and the Beltway pundits tsked-tsked about its impact. The Post immediately wrote that the 240 remaining Obama nominees would face more Republican procedural delays. Democrats responded that the 3 nominees for the D.C. The Post counters with job losses recorded in Maryland and Virginia showing weak job growth and unemployment at 5.6% (which looks to me close to full employment).

Houston, We Have A White Male Problem
++The LAX shooter was a white New Jersey male who wanted to get even with that bulldyke Janet Napilitano, whom he thought was still the head of Homeland Security. The shooter left an anti-government manifesto that the Southern Poverty Center noted was based on the talking points of the Minutemen. Charles Pierce, Esquire's political blogger, notes that there is nothing random about the LAX incident,saying it is inevitable given the country's refusal to face up to our gun problem. When you have 10,000 deaths since Newtown by guns, you have a problem.
++Texas Voter ID laws nabbed the 90-year old former Speaker of the House, Jim Wright, who was denied voter identification.
++Rand Paul's plagiarism problem goes beyond the Rachel Maddow Show. Now it looks like he ripped off pages from Conservative think tanks.

The President is Strong,Strong,Strong
++So says Harry Reid after the hour and a half meeting between the congressional leaders and President Obama. Harry Reid said he had never been so proud of the President. John Boehner said that the President refused to negotiate.
++What Boehner meant was that President Obama told him Obamacare has already left the station and it's not going to be de-railed.
++The President said he would not negotiate over the debt ceiling and asked Boehner to bring a clean bill to the House floor where reporters note it now has enough votes to pass.
++Meanwhile House Republicans are trying to pin the blame for the shutdown on the Democrats by passing bills piecemeal to take away the most public faces of the shutdown. For instance, the National Institute of Health has a program for cancer patients when all alternatives have failed. News that they had to turn away 200 patients today stimulated the GOP to pass a short-term bill allowing it to open. The RNC said it would pay the national parks to keep the WWII monument open because of the bad publicity of the Heroes Tour of WWII vets showing up in Washington to find the memorial closed.
++Calgary Cruz said the shutdown has made the United States vulnerable to terrorist attacks. I suppose it wasn't an ironic statement given the terrorism of the House.
++Rand Paul couldn't resist ,saying that President Obama ordered more guards on the WWII memorial than he did at Benghazi.
++Darryl Issa said he would convene an investigation into why public memorials have been closed because of the shutdown. Remember it was only about a month ago that both the Lincoln and Washington memorials were defaced with graffiti. You can imagine the outrage if these monuments were left open.
++Norm Ornstein writes in the Washington Post that the Democrats can play harder ball. Accept the NIH bill amended to include an increase in funding and add the research grants which the House neglected and send it back to the House. If need be, the Senate could amend one of the House bills by adding a clean CR on it for a vote. In short, the Democrats have to make sure the onus is on the Republicans.

Our House is a Very,Very Nice House with Two Cats in the Yard
Today President Obama lunches with the House Republican leadership, which basically has nothing else to do.
Little Ricky Cantor blasted President Obama's speech before the U.S. Chamber of Commerce because government should not tell business to create jobs. This from the man who said the first job of the new Republican majority in the House was to create jobs.
Rachel Maddow had a fun segment on the rigorous schedule of the new House--two weeks on, two weeks off, plus holidays including St.Patrick's Day. The schedule leaves little time to get any work done.
But our guys are on the job. Today begins the debate on re-affirming that our national motto is "In God We Trust", which the co-sponsors claim was true from our founding. Actually, it became official in 1956. Previous to that our motto was E Pluribus Unum but we don't believe that any more. The first use of "In God We Trust" was on our currency during the Civil War. Abraham Lincoln was under pressure from abolitionalist evangelicals to seize the moral high ground in the civil war. Southern Christianity claimed secession was divinely inspired and the northern preachers wanted to take away the religious legitimacy from the South. Hence, Lincoln's compromise. But it sure will be a great debate with no one remembering how the motto got started in the first place.
The Prussian-like discipline of the new Republicans was on display with their snap vote on the Patriot Act. Because they cirucmvented the normal calender, passage needed a 2/3rds vote. The teabaggers rebelled on three clauses--FBI wireless wiretaps, library checks, and the lone wolf clause that allowed federal surveillance of individuals, not connected to terrorist groups. The Act was defeated, now making Democrats the number 1 party in national security.
"Grand Theft" Issa plans to subpoena all the names and records of every Freedom of Information Act request of the Obama Administration to determine whether the administration is playing games with them.
Peter King, the former hero of Bosnian Muslims, now will be holding hearings on why the Muslim community doesn't cooperate with the police departments. No police departments are testifying because they know all their tips come from the community. Instead, King is calling forth leaders of the Muslim community--like Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Just kidding.

Joe Pitts is sponsoring A Protect Life bill, which calls for penalties against health insurance companies who cover abortion procedures. This is the second bill in a week to restrict the right of choice.
