Jennifer Rubin Call For War

++Citing the statements of the French Secretary of State that France was now in war against jihadists and radical Islam, Jennifer Rubin tuts tuts President Obama not saying the same. She calls for an invasion of Syria and approvingly quotes torture memo man, Johnny Yoo, that President Obama was wrong to say the Declaration of War against Al Qaeda after 9/11 was out of date. She agrees with Yoo that France should invoke article 5 of the NATO Charter, even though france hasn't been attacked by a nation state.
Rubin also applauds Gov. Perry's attack on President Obama when he says "This is no way to treat our oldest ally." Remember Freedom Fries, anyone?

++We have not reached the stage when the war-mongers have won the day but we are inching close. President Obama was again accused of not speaking out that these were works of terror, even though I heard a speech where he referred to the attacks on Charlie Hebdo and the kosher deli as acts of terror five times.

++I think it is important to keep these reactions in mind when the Republican Congress starts beating the drums for war again. The language used will be found in the next few days of right-commentary.

++Which brings me to some indelicate thoughts. The perpetrators of these acts grew up as the sons of Algerian immigrants, idolized the GIA bombers of the 1990s,decided to go to Iraq and when sent to prison were cultivated by a Tunisian member of Al Qaeda, who tried to blow up the American embassy before 9/11. The killer in the kosher grocery attack was selling drugs only the day before. The others had been involved in street crimes in their ghetto and held low paying jobs.

++Now since the perpetrators have long ties to acts of terror carried out by militants from French colonies why are we suddenly supposed to invade Syria or Yemen for that matter? Are we supposed to believe the perpetrators own statements invoking Al-Alaki and being trained in Yemen?

++All of this gets us back to the massive mistakes the United States has made in counter-terrorism. These are marginalized young men--in fact orphaned at a young age--who hung out with gangs in the parks. There are thousands of them in France and elsewhere. Why make them more "heroic" than they are and why publicize their acts the way we do?

++Remember there were more deaths at Sandy Hook Elementary School. What about Anders Krevik killing those 75 young Social Democrats in Sweden? I think there may be more connections between young disturbed men, regardless of race, creed or color.
