A Textbook example of nonviolent protest. The water protectors of the Sioux Nation along with 1,000 vets who acted as a human shield shutdown the Dakota Access Pipeline. Kudos to Amy Goodman who was threatened by jail by the Dakota authorities and Cenk of the Young Turks who went there five times.
Now the protestors were faced with the full force of the state,the police and ,for reasons I don't understand, police from neighboring states.The state set fire at the protestors' encampments and then brought in water hoses to spray the crowd in sub-zero degree weather.
This is how non-violent protests work. They had specific grievances and specific goals to accomplish. The last being not to allow drilling in the Missouri River. The tenacity that lasted weeks forced the Obama Administration to cancel the easement and the permit to drill. Even though Trump has a financial interest in the Pipeline and tweeted his support to they company today, the actions by Obama mean the lease for the company runs out literally on inaugeration. Trump can try again but Standing Rock promised to return.
