No, Bernie Sanders would not have won. The Trump campaign would have gone after him for being a Jewish Socialist who supported the Cuban and Nicaraguan Revolutions. If you thought Trump's last campaign ad was rough,he probably would have recited the Protocols of the Elders courtesy of Putin.
I wondered the whole campaign about Trump's GOTV. While we were fixated by the Souls to the Polls in the African-American community. Evangelical and fundamentalist churches were mobilizing their flocks in the Mid-West and the South. The Koch Brothers did stay out of the presidential but spent $440 million through their Tea Party creations to mobilize support for down ballot candidates, which would affect the Trump candidacy. Republicans did not boycott the top of the ballot except for a few notable GOP leaders.
No, the white working class did not elect Donald Trump. His support came from people earning over $75,000 and much more. Basically, Trump persuaded them to vote against the best economic interest for their cultural rage.
The margin in many states was the same as the turnout for Jill Stein. As a friend at DOJ said to me,"The millennials could not cast an adult vote." Something that infuriated my son, who thought some of his colleagues couldn't case about the rights of others.
Remember only about 61% of the country voted. Trump won with about 30%. Hillary won the rest.
Over 13 states implemented Voter ID Laws and expunged the voting lists after the Roberts' Court gutted the Voter Rights Act. Despite court rulings in the past days, the states like North Carolina ignored them.
