My Deepest Apologies to Ernest Hemingway

Earlier today I referred to the GOP adopting the Ernest Hemingway School of Legal Writing with respect to their two-page repeals of the healthcare bills. Ernest was concise and a precise speller in his finished manuscripts. He was a master at short prose pieces. I apologize to his family and his memory for my disrespect. I have talked with people about my doubts that the GOP has anyone left who can actually write legislation. What lies below are the stunning first words of the new House.

What we found today should shock anyone with a grammar school education. This is the text of little Ricky Cantor's repeal bill. I'm not centering it for my own ease. The formatting issues alone take up a whole page.

This is the text--You Can Not Make This Up.

"112th Congress

IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

pealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such ACT had not been enacted.

(b.)HEALTH CARE-RELATED PROVISIONS IN THE HEALTH CARE AND EDUCATION RECONCILIATION ACT OF 2010.--Effective as of the enactment of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 (Public Law 111-152), title I and subtitle B of title II of such ACT are repealed, and the provisions of the law amended or repealed by such title or subtitle, respectively, are restored or revived as if such title and subtitle had not been enacted. "

This is the type of language for the boilerplate opening of any piece of legislation but not the contents or operative parts. Even normal boilerplate is better written. This is embarrassing to all Americans. This really is the law they want to introduce that will erase all the changes in health insurance policies for millions of Americans. What they don't mention is that private insurance rates will skyrocket and the number of uninsured will climb way past the current number of 50 million, or the population of Spain for an easy reference.

The majority of the GOP may indeed be right when they refuse to believe in evolution. It's clear that the new House Republicans are proof of devolution.

Oh, by the way, "job-killing bill" was a Frank Luntz invention that was tested for effect. That's why you hear Gentleman John Boehner souting it in every speech.

Call his office up and ask him about all those job-creating bills.
