OBAMA AT HALF-TIME

As the Reichstag starts what it says will be 20 days of undoing the achievements of President Obama,it is useful to consider what our President has achieved in his two short years in office. It is almost a cliche, which no one believes anymore, that he took office in the greatest economic crisis since the Depression (some even say it's worst than the Great Depression), two wars going on, the United States at the lowest approval rating in world public opinion and with the mess left over from an Administration which broke international and national law by torturing people and keeping them sequestered away from any due process or law.

Oh and yes, President Obama entered office with an almost insurmontable debt left by his predecessor. At least $11 trillion of the American national debt can be directly attributed to the Bush-Cheney regime. America was teetering on the edge and could have imploded like the old Soviet Union.

Moreover, the Republican Party met one month before President Obama's inaugural to pledge not to cooperate with the new president, the first time an opposition party has ever done this in modern America. Mitch McConnell explained that "bipartisanship" would validate the Obama administration and by withholding this support his programs and ideas would be rendered illegitimate, even if he incorporated Republican ideas. The Catfood Commission was a Republican idea that had to be implemented through Executive Order because its GOP sponsors would not vote for it.

The Republican Party also used the filibuster in the 111th Congress more times than it had been used in the history of the United States. Several hundred amendments to the Stimulus Bill were engineered by Republicans, even though only the Maine Senators voted for it. It was only at the end of the lameduck Congress that Republicans broke discipline and voted for the Obama tax deal because it preserved the tax breaks for the wealthy.

So with that as the backdrop, how did Barack Hussein Obama do? He is already an historic president but will he become the transformation president he desires? If the imperial corporations and the owners of the American plantation stop him from winning a second term, he will certainly go down as a great one-term President. The best in American history was James K. Polk and Obama is certain to top him.

The List of Obama's accomplishments is not exhaustive or in any priority.

SO WHAT DID YOU DO FOR YOUR COUNTRY THE LAST TWO YEARS? If Obama only believed more in American exceptionalism, then maybe he wouldn't work so hard on implementing change because we're perfect as we are.

The list above is not exhaustive. But when was the last time you heard anyone, except Rachel Maddow ("Bless her"), talk about the President's accomplishments?Certainly in Washington, you would think nothing has happened. He can put his two-year record up against any living President in the last century--and, yes, even FDR, who also had a tough start. He might want to get a better group of communicators to talk to the American people.

Keep the list handy as the Republican House tries to dismantle each of these in the next two years. Also it's handy when you hear the constant whine of the punditry talk about the Administration.

Just a thought--Of everything on that list, the absolutely only thing the Republicans cared about was the continuation of the tax cuts for the rich. It is the only thing--nothing else. Incredible!
