President Obama Speaks at American University On The Iran Deal

+"How do you justify a war when you have a diplomatic agreement? What do you tell future generations?"

+President Obama took on the critics of the nuclear deal by pointing out that the deal prohibits a bomb forever while military action would only put the program back a few years.

+President Obama pointed to those who criticize the deal are the same people who championed the Iraq War, which isolated the United States more than anything we have done. He also hit the chicken hawks by pointing out all the arm chair generals while only 1% of us serve in the military, unlike all the rest of us at home.

+President Obama had the details of the agreement at his fingertips. He pointed out that those wanting a unicorn haven't come up with an alternative. He went into detail why more sanctions would not work and would be unacceptable to the rest of the world. He also pointed out that the agreement had the approval of every government on earth except Israel.

+He cited over a 100 ambassadors who are for it,the entire nuclear arms community, and the security establishment.

+He pointed to the fact that Iran's military budget was 8 times less than that of the Gulf states combined.

+He also indicated that war against Iran would be the worst Middle Eastern war we would ever engage in and would entail several unintended consequences.

+He said that he had many hard calls as President but this wasn't one of them. The nuclear deal made the United States more secure and Israel safer.

+He said that he had provided Israel with unprecedented military and security assistance that ensured Israel could not be defeated by conventional means. He also pointed to ongoing discussions with Israel about upgrading their defense capacity.

+He went on at great length about the difficulty Iran would have in cheating on the deal. He pointed out that this was the most extensive non-proliferation deal in history with more extensive inspection than others.

+He spent a long time in discussing how Iran's other behavior like supporting terrorism and destabilizing the regime extended back into their history and that we had negotiated with the Soviet Union while they were engaging in the same behavior.

+He addressed Bibi's claim that you can't negotiate with people who scream "Death to America" by saying it were these hardliners who opposed the deal and now they were allies with our Congress.

+President Obama addressed Israel's concerns and noted that Israel had every reason to be skeptical about Iran. But he said a nuclear Iran would be a game-changer for Israel.

+President Obama made the point that without the deal Iran would be closer to a nuclear weapon. He emphasized that previous arms agreements were far more riskier.

+It was a President on top of his game. He emphasized that the sanctions regime was not to engage in "regime change".

+Yesterday, President Obama met with representatives of the American Jewish community. He pointed out that without a deal Israel faced asymmetrical warfare because the US's defense budget was $600 billion compared to Iran's $15 billion. Israel will be blamed for the US not approving the deal and that missiles may rain down on Tel Aviv.

+After his presentation, an AIPAC official said,"We are being asked to go against the President of the United States. I hope we lose this vote."
