ELECTION DAY MUSIC AND READING

Leonard Cohen's "You Want It Darker". Cohen on mortality. Nice album but not the cheeriest.

With Josh Marshall's two posts on Trump's cynical anti-semiticism, I stopped reading Volker Ullrich's HITLER: ASCENT 1889-1939. I will let him get the chancellorship today. Very eerie parallels to the Trump phenomenon . But in this book Hitler actually made political deals with the democratic system before he destroyed it. Trump's last ad was more than anti-semitic, it actually was a summary of the German temperament at the time of Hitler's final rise.

Did Trump know he was using anti-semitic tropes? Does he even know Janet Yallen is Jewish? Frank Gannon does. Marshall writes that it doesn't matter because by using the rhetoric and allowing it to surround his campaign he legitimizes it.
