Born in the U.S.A!

Glenn Beck finally attacked the Boss. Yesterday he proclaimed "Born in the USA" "melodic but unpatriotic".

Let's forget the music and ramble inside the polyphrenic world of Mr. Beck. The Boss campaigns for the socialist-fascist-racist Obama. At a concert for the young President, he introduces Stalinist Pete Seeger who sings Communist Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land". Hence the Boss is to be exposed.

Norman Podhoretz in Commentary years ago touted "Born in the USA" as a sign of renewed patriotism. Some of us didn't have the heart to tell Norman the song meant something different. So finally decades go by and Glenn Beck zeros in.

Now what's going to happen to Bob Dylan. Obama awards hims the Medal for Arts and Humanities and he sings at the White House with former lover and known pacifist Joan Baez. Dylan befriended the dying Woody Guthrie and sang "Hey, Woody Guthrie, I wrote you a song." This should go great for Beck.

But is he missing the deep story. Remember yesterday's hero was Joe McCarthy. Another Bruce grew up on the Jersey Shore. He was known to visit the Stone Pony and heard the Boss rehearse the Nebraska album in the abandoned Grey Hound Station. He was seen speaking to the Boss at Rick's Sub Shop on Main Street. Years later, he would live only a half a mile from the Boss. This guy was running Freedom House. Great name, huh? But who had been the chairman of Freedom House?--Maine Senator Margaret Chase Smith. And what did she do? She openly opposed Joe McCarthy and brought the SOB down with a censure from the Senate, which Glenn showed yesterday as a mark of national dishonor. To top it off, Joe McCarthy went after "communists' at Fort Monmouth. Where was that?--The Jersey Shore. So it all fits together.

(I remember my father's volcanic anger in those days when some of his boyhood friends had been fired at the Fort because of McCarthy. And he was a lifelong Republican.)

I think white folks are at the stage that was reached by black folks many years ago. Remember when black celebrities--Bill Cosby--warned that black males should understand only a few get to play in the NBA and that an education is a better bet for the future. I think we should start this --that only a few become Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh but you need to be educated to get ahead. How many slots are there for white, uneducated conservatives?
