This was the type of sentiment I saw in 2008 when hundreds of thousands of people greeted Barack Obama in Grant's Park waving American flags. I thought this marked a sea change.
++Now The Republicans are what Jean J, Kirkpatrick called the Blame America First Party. What's so interesting is to see in about 12 years how those who most effectively talk about patriotism and America are Democrats. It goes back to Barack Obama;s 2004 speech on no Red States, no Blue States, but just the United States.
++Andrew Sullivan eluded to Cory Booker using the Obama formulations to evoke the image of America. It was the Obama vision of America that sold Andrew on Obama in the first place.
++You saw that Obama language of how to discuss America and patriotism in Michelle's speech. It's not heavy-handed but build in its effect.
