Bayard was awarded the Medal of Freedom by President Obama. The award was presented to his lifelong companion Walter Naegle. The watch Martin Luther King gave Bayard for his role in organizing the march on Washington is now in the Museum of African-American Culture and History.
Bayard was my mentor and I asked him when we were in Grenada his regret. "Not fighting Hitler. If you must fight evil. That was evil."
