PEW and other polls

It will be interesting to see how the Bain debacle affects polling over the next two weeks. There are a lot of questions and issues being raised by the latest charges that Romney either left Bain in 1999 or in 2001. It looks small but it involves whether Romney lied on his SEC listing or was he involved in a period where Bain was involved in enormous corruption that involved investigations by the Federal attorneys. Today was not the greatest of days for Romney to roll out his ad charging President Obama as being a "liar". The recent revelations about Bain and the Bermuda company created by Romney led Senator Harry Reid to erupt that Romney couldn't get elected dog catcher. The Boston Globe essentially confirmed the reporting by David Corn about the discrepancy of when Romney left Bain. Bain tried to counter that Romney did leave in February 1999 to help organize the Olympics but the paper trail says something different.

The Pew poll today showed President Obama for the second consecutive week at 50% beating Romney's 43%. In a turnabout, President Obama took the lead on economic questions with 48-42%. Of the 12 areas polled, President Obama led in eight and Romney only surpassed Obama in cutting the deficit. President Obama has a whopping 12 point lead on defending America from terrorist attacks and solving the energy issue. For the first time, healthcare was above water with 47% approval rating and 43% disapproving.

In state polls, PPP had Obama with a 50-44 lead over Romney in Wisconsin and found that if Romney chose Paul Ryan it would be a competitive race, Marquette University reproduced the findings from their recall poll which showed Obama with a 51-43 lead.
