I voted in Virginia--The Thrill Is Gone

++We should all remember that after all the noise and wailing, voting can be a dull affair. I voted in Old Town this morning. I got all of three items to vote on--Senator, Representative, and a constitutional amendment to exempt immediate families of slain military personnel from property taxes. On the first, the choice was Mark Warner and Ed Gillespie, and the second was my former Williams classmate and a few candidates that I and no one else had heard of.

++So if you live in contested states, please vote. At least it will be exciting. If you are in Washington State,Oregon and Alaska, you can vote on legalizing weed. Right now, Washington leans yes, both both Oregon and Alaska lean no.

++I actually heard a logical political reason for Washington,D.C. not to vote to legalize marijuana. The radio announcer said that all the arguments for legalizing are sound but that it will never be law because Congress controls D.C. He argued that such a vote might alienate anyone in Congress who might be persuaded to grant D.C. a lone voting representative. He thought that a "yes" vote on legalization would alienate the bipartisan group that actually wants D.C. to have voting rights.

++Sam Wang is now doing the cable news circuit. He is emphasizing that this election is actually correcting the two wave elections of 2008 and 2010. He also explained that the interesting issue of whether the GOP will actually get the majority vote in the House, not to be confused with the majority is moot because of gerrymandering and demographic changes.

++Today's Wang posts call Corbett and Brownback dead ducks and that the Dems will gain two seats and lose one in the state houses on Tuesday. Again he notes that there have not been so many challenged incumbent governors in years. He sees the number of races in that small margin of polling at about 11. Very similar to the situation of the Senate.

++Alot of little dirty tricks are being played the last few days by Republicans. In Florida,a political operative planted in the Miami Herald a phony poll showing Scott in the lead. A shadowy group circulated a Democratic candidate list and inserted a few Republicans to vote for. People in Iowa are reacting to the GOP flyers saying your neighbor will know who you vote for. And the beat goes on.

++An odd thought. If the Republicans actually win the Senate, isn't Alison Grimes in a better situation in 2016 as Attorney General to make sure the election goes smoothly? And is this ultimately the reason the Clintons have been so active in state.
