The International Obamacare Hits The Streets

+So far my conservative friends haven't weighed in. Crickets from their corner. But don't worry the way this works is that even private e-mailers must get their talking points from the Rightwing Control officer before they send out their "opinions". Jean Paul Sartre visiting in the United States in the 1950s, said we are a control which speaks about freedom but are 100% controlled by public opinion. And that pubic opinion is manufactures. So we will have to wait. Under W., it was simple, Karl Rove sent out his talking points every day to "opinion leaders". Nowadays it is too diffuse.

+The agreement is 152 pages--like Obamacare--no one will read it. I won't be surprised to see someone arguing that it has death panels in it.

+My position on this matter has been very public for years. I wanted a diplomatic agreement to Iran's nuclear program, but I never believed they would negotiate. I do to believe the agreement , nor did I believe, it would have anything to do with the human rights situation in that country or its behavior in neighboring countries. Those who tried to insert these elements into the negotiations were foolhardy. Now that it is concluded, we should recognize how historic it is.

+I liked the way the negotiations dealt with the "snap-back" provisions on the sanctions. I believed that these were foolhardy because of the veto power of Russia and China. But the mechanism for the snap-back calls for a majority of the powers to approve the snap-back by a committee vote which eliminates the veto threat. I'm very surprised the Russians agreed to this.

+Americans have to remember that the killer sanctions are those authorized by the UN Security Council and the European Union. American trade with Iran has evaporated over the years so our sanctions do not have the bite the others do. In fact, we could keep all of them and it would be a pyrrhic victory affecting nothing.

+So look for the text to be misrepresented by the critics of the deal much like Obamacare.

+As to Obama's legacy--being elected twice in a racist country was enough--but he and his negotiating team delivered when I thought they couldn't.

+President Obama will be challenged on his statement that all the pathways to a nuclear bomb for Iran are closed. This remark comes from Ernest Moniz, the Energy Secretary's work on the negotiations. He built the Iranian nuclear infrastructure in Tennessee and ran simulations about how many ways you can get to a nuclear weapon. He then devised methods to block every way and the rest will be detected through inspection.

+I love this type of policy-making but I still believe it is too abstract and complex for a politicians to understand. And that is where we will have problems.

+This is the first nuclear agreement that actually follows the uranium up through the whole chain of processing. Iran's uranium mines will be monitored. Something I have never seen before in an agreement.

+Now what about "Lame Duck" doesn't President Obama understand?
