Obama tells Senate Back Off

++National Security Adviser McDonough sent a letter to Senator Corker that the Senate should not proceed with their sanctions legislation because it will screw up the deal. McDonough wrote that President Obama would veto such a measure and that the Senate can vote on it down the line. Remember that the real deal is supposed to be in June.

++I think it was a mistake to say the Senate would vote on it. They are incapable of serious thought. Was the Vietnam peace agreement or the Helsinki agreement voted on?

++The new line is that President Obama is so pre-occupied with the Iranian deal that he has abandoned the policy of contentment against Iran. Let me make it very clear--once W invaded Iraq the whole double containment theory of the United States vanished. Some of us warned that Iran would become dominant in Iraq as they have.

++Another argument is that Iran's human rights record is a sign you can't negotiate with Iran. The problem here is that all successful negotiations with adversaries have occurred when the other party had a horrible human rights record. Here, there would be intrusive inspections on nuclear sites, which is far better than none.
