The Shroud Of Turn Is On Display

++One of the Catholic Church's prized relics, then shroud is on display for the first time in five years. It has been the subject of a History Channel documentary which showed it could have been created with someone using the Camera Obscura techniques of artists.

++It's not a fraud per se. It was created in the 14th century. It is not the image of a crucified Jesus Christ, however interesting that may be. Or we would have read about how tall he was in the New Testament.

++For my money, the image is that of Meister Eckhart, the great Christian mystic. He was called the stork for his lengthy gait and head that seemed to crane around.

++Eckhart was summoned by the Inquisition for his sermons in Germany. He walked to Avignon where he "disappeared". A while later. the Catholic Church said he had died since his parishioners wanted to know what happened.

++The Shroud appeared not far from Avignon and was treated as an authentic relic of Jesus Christ. The story is that Eckhart had been tortured by the Inquisition and died and was wrapped in a Shroud. Technical analysis showed that certain types of dyes could have "stained" the shroud and left images for centuries.
