Mishmash From the Middle East

+President Obama said he was open to discussing the immediate lifting of the sanctions regime against Iran. Israeli papers quote him saying that Putin didn't have to wait as long to agree to the sale of S-3000 missiles. Sounds like disinformation to me.

+Republican conservatives are denouncing the Corker Bill, saying he "betrays the constitution." What they don't seem to understand is that this is a multi-nation negotiation.

+Natan Sharansky in the Washington Post has a similar problem in his op-ed piece about When did America Forget What America Is. Sharansky defends US-USSR negotiations in the Cold War which linked lifting sanctions to human rights issues, etc. But he tries to feed all of this into a multi-national negotiation that is solely about Iran's nuclear program--not missiles, not terrorism, not recognition of Israel.

+On a lighter note,The Iranian Commander of the Iranian ground forces,Brig. General Ahmed Reza Pourdashian claimed that ISIS, Al Nusra and Boko Haram are the creations of the United States. He meant this literally. Also he tells negotiators at Lausanne that the destruction of Israel is non-negotiable.

+I like the idea that ISIS is led by an Israeli character actor.

+Random House is being sued by …Goebbels estate because they quoted from his diaries without its permission.

+President Rouhani said that the Iranian military didn't pose a threat to the Middle East. He said it provided a defensive deterrent.

+Iraq has recaptured the Baiji refinery. In other news ISIS is seizing Ramadi. I read a Pentagon analysis that said Baiji was strategically important, Ramadi wasn't.

+Even American analysts are saying their minds are blown by the changing events in the Middle East.

+The Saudis have said they will pick up the UN tap for Yemen.
