Does Cantor's Defeat Spell The End of Immigration Reform?

+John McCain yesterday said that the GOP can't not stand a chance of winning in 2016 if it doesn't pass immigration reform.

+Joe Biden said the GOP has until July to act or the President will.

+John Boehner and Eric Cantor had been playing a game of chicken on this issue. They had hoped to get pass the primaries and introduce the GOP plan.

+With Eric Cantor being soundly defeated tonight, in large part because of the suspicions he was for immigration reform,it's likely House Republicans will run for the hills on immigration. They already had voted for Steven King's "Deport the Dreamers" bill.

+But the issue has gained further urgency as 47,000 unaccompanied immigrant children have crossed the border. The government projects that the number will top 90,000, provoking a humanitarian emergency.

+President Obama has already signed executive orders allowing Dreamers to enter the military and he has signed orders to postpone certain deportations. He has withheld the Homeland Security review of the priorities in deportation until the Republicans decided where they wanted to go.

+Thousands of children have been put on Greyhound busses from Nogales, Texas, to be dumped into Arizona. The government has announced a state of emergency so as to allow FEMA to respond. Children are to be housed at neighboring military bases.

+However, the crisis is intensifying. The Catholic Bishops and even the evangelical churches have been pressing Congress to address the issue.

+With Eric Cantor's defeat, this avenue may be closed off and President Obama will have to do as much as he can by executive order. The immigration system is broken and now is in a state of emergency.
