Jon Parr On Thomas Friedman's interview with President Obama

+Jon Parr at the DailyKos caught something in the interview of Thomas Friedman's with President Obama that I had missed but I think Parr gets it right.

+In selling the Iranian nuke deal, President Obama pointed out why Israel's objectives are wrong but understandable. He riffs on Iran's threats to Israel and then slips in that he would be taking steps to send a strong message to the region that any state trying to attack Israel will be met with the full force of the United States.

+Since my eyes glazed over by the length of the interview, I believe Parr is right that President Obama is going to give Israel a security guarantee that surpasses his predecessors.

+Former Israeli ambassador Michael Orens said that  American assistance is not as important as what continued American assistance tells the region. Previously, Israeli security bureaucrats debated whether such a guarantee would tie their hands and mean prior approval from Washington for military actions.

+Today the Israeli defense minister did not rule out a military attack on Iran but said there were not plans immediately.

+Could we be seeing a type of Kibuki play over this matter. Bibi in his last meeting with President Obama refused to commit on whether he would give Washington a heads-up on an attack on Tehran. He has been blatant about his plans for attack just after his election.

+Ynet posted an op-ed that said Bibi should do something constructive and get updated fighter bombers from Obama and other defense materials for the Iran deal.

+Watch this space. I think there is something coming up.

+Leave it to Senator Schumer to argue that the Senate should have the right to approve or disapprove of the Iran deal. Unfortunately,American Senators really do believe there are the center of the world and no other atomic powers were involved in the negotiations.

+I think the legislative strategy of the Obama administration is to leave all Congress-approved sanctions in place to satisfy the egomaniacs and let the UN Security Council and the EU's sanctions to expire.
