+When the controversy over Bibi's speech hit, there was much concern about the potential erosion of the bipartisan support for Israel. The fact that President Obama had extended a security deal with Israel for ten years, provided funding for two different missile protection programs, supplied Israel with the largest in bunker buster bombs seemed to indicate Bibi could only dent USA support for Israel.
+But you have to remember ole' Abe Foxman was against Bibi coming and prestigious voices in the American Jewish community said it was a mistake.
+I, for one, said you can't make Israel a partisan issue because sooner it would put such support in jeopardy.
+So we now have the GOP-leaning pollsters Rasmussen poll Americans whether they consider Israel an ally of the United States. For a comparison,86% of Americans consider Canada an ally, 84% Britain.
+54% of Americans consider Israel an ally. 68% thought so in 2014. 74% thought Israel an ally in 2012.
+David Atkins wrote a piece yesterday on how the right-wing parties of Israel mirror the polarization of issues here. Atkins believes the numbers will worsen as Bibi's cabinet governs. This is not good news.
+More problematic is the breakdown of the poll. 76% of Republicans believe Israel is an ally,45% of Democrats and 47% of independents. The GOP number is inflated because of Bibi being opposed to President Obama.
+Meanwhile, Pope Francis backed the Iran deal. The Saudi King supports the deal and the Egyptians.
